and by house, I mean my blog. and by mess i mean mess. At least the Twitter crosspost as a blog fiasco is over. That was just silly. I need to rethink this thing. Facebook and Twitter have pretty much taken over, but I still want to put SOME things in here.

I completely support that — Twitter is great, Facebook is OK for what it is, but they are NOT replacements for running one’s own blog and operating one’s own independent (web) server(s).
For a long time I resisted the socialnets/web2, preferring to stick to my 90′s-era attitude of “if I want to to do something online, I should host it myself rather than drive traffic to someone else’s site!”…..and I still prefer to go that way when I can.
As you well know, of course, these days one is shotting oneself in the foot if one doesn’t take advantage of the tremendous potential of the social networks, Twitter, Plurk and LinkedIn most particularly for mixed/business reasons and Facebook for truly/purely social ones…..but a lot of people are getting way too engrossed & invested in this “microblogging” in their Twitter timelines/profiles, and I think that those of us with sites of our own should be setting an example by making the most use of them that we can….
….in any case, I hope to see you at the Black Hole forum http://blackhole.xerces.com/ if you get the chance — and I’ll be seeing you on Twitter regardless! You’ll find me under your most recent new followers
