Christmas Bulb
by chris ~ December 2nd, 2007. Filed under: Photo A Day.So, here goes December. Up goes the decor, and the electricity bill. Actually, that’s because we keep turning the heater on. I could probably wear my pajamas all week long, but Maren and Carey would probably freeze. My DIL helped me put up some plastic storm window material on all of the major windows, but it’s hard to say if it’s helping retain the heat.
Something weird about Christmas this year, can’t quite put my finger on it. Money REALLY sucks this season, I usually have a bunch of freelance projects this time of year, and they’ve sort of evaporated. We’re really getting tested this season. However, my executive pastor Ken gave me a bunch of clothes that they were going to get rid of from his brother’s closet (his brother passed away just recently) and he was totally my size. I seriously gained half a wardrobe in topwear, some fitness wear and a pair of shoes. I finally went through and retired all of the threadbare stuff that i’ve been wearing for the last year.
I think we’re going to be putting up our tree today. Or maybe not. The weather is crazy, all horizontal rain, leaning trees right now.
I’m taking from the 17th to the end of the year off for vacation, though we don’t have any funds to really GO anywhere, I’m hoping to dive into some of the projects that I’ve been putting off for a while and it’s a great time to be able to start going back to the club and working out without having to worry about getting to work on time.
Maren went through a bit of a change a week ago. For a couple of weeks now, she’s been combative, angry, testy. Couldn’t figure it out. Then, a switch flipped and she turned into a different girl. she’s been sharing her snacks, food and drinks with is. She brings us things like our shoes, jackets, toothbrushes when we need them, and we’re not even asking for them. She’s been asking for hugs and kisses. She came up to me the other day, and said, “daddy, close your eyes.” I closed them and she gave me the sweetest little kiss ever. She’s been pretty obedient and wants to help with cleaning, making the bed, cooking. Pretty neat. Not sure what prompted it, but we’re going with it, giving her lots of praise and encouragement.
In other news, I’m hungry.
