Ah, Summer

Ah, Summer

I love this time of year, despite the fact that it’s scortchville. One of the great things about this house is that is has lots of shade from the trees. The Blackies are coming back next week, so today we’re going to do some cleanup in the garage and the spare room. The lawn is looking fantastic, thanks to the help of Carey’s parents. We have tender little grass shoots coming up as we speak. We’ve been waiting till later at night to water so we don’t fry the plants in the morning. It’s very relaxing actually, going from plant to plant, covering the lawn. Maren and grandma planted some wildflowers and a couple of sunflowers and they’re coming up nicely. Our strawberries have exploded this year, and it seems like i’m picking berries daily. I had planned on doing a raised garden, but I just haven’t had time to. I get to thinking about it every time I got to the Saturday Market.

Speaking of which, we’re headed there today to pick up some salad veggies and maybe some berries. They had some Peruvian food last time, maybe we’ll get some fried plantains.  OH! They also fired up the fountains at the capitol. I’ve been meaning to take Maren down there, today might be a good day.

There are these 2 trees in our backyard with a bit of a depression in between them. At first I was thinking about putting a fire pit in there (and i still might), but lately i’ve been thinking about stringing a hammock up there.

Enjoyed the read, Chris. I hope you guys get to the Capitol fountains today and even again as it gets hotter mid week. We’re glad the grass and other plants are doing so well and that you can see some of the results of the hard labor by all of us. Everyone sure pitched in, and it was so neat to see how much Maren wanted to help in all of the work too.
