Playing a little catch up (what’s new?)
by chris ~ April 6th, 2006. Filed under: Church, Computers, Family, Music.I’m running sound this weekend, so after a rather long rehearsal tonight, i’m at home drinking tea, eating cut veggies and ranch, whilst watching Jeeves and Wooster (thanks for that one, Jeff), and relaxing in general.
I think my perforated eardrum is back, I swear that i hear 3 decibles better with my head cocked to the right, than I do when I’m straight up. i’ve noticed it when i get up in the morning. drives me crazy. Need to get that checked out.
So, I did end up updating the photo gallery with pictures of Maren from the last 6 - 9 months or so. These can be found here: http://www.newmodernscience.com/gallery. In the process of sorting data out, I ran a script to sort and resize these. I found a rather useful free tool by Microsoft called SyncToy, that will sync up your files much like you would sync a PDA. You just set two folders, and tell it how you want it to sync, and it runs, does compares and updates both. My only complaint is that you have to run it manually, or by setting a scheduled task; it’d be nice if it just constantly checks the folders on it’s own. still, it’s nice when you’re adding stuff constantly to a work folder and you don’t have to think about which files you’ve updated, and which ones you haven’t.
I submitted a proposal to my boss to make inroads toward getting this worship album on the books finally. Rocky and I have been working on it on our spare time, and I’d feel better if were being backed by the church, with me devoting some of my paid time to work on it.
So, this worship band that i’m playing in on my spare time is starting to be alot of fun, musically. it’s been a stretch for me because i’m not just playing drums, i’m also sequencing tracks and triggering loops while i’m playing, which is quite a challange when you’ve already got 4 limbs going at once. on a side note, we’ve had several individuals express interest in helping our little project get off the ground. We’ve had several offers of “let me know what you need”, in a blank check sort of way. Everyone else has instruments exept me, so I spent a couple of hours last night pricing out my ideal drumkit, with all the trimmings. It came out to something ridiculous like $4,000. I sent it off anyway. I can dream, can’t I? I mean, I don’t really have any idea where we’re going with this project, but we have some aspirations. On a local scale, I would like to do an All-City Worship Night during the summer, or even a series of them and invite anyone who wants to come down and worship with us down at the waterfront. I’d love to see us do some travelling gigs like mission trips, or church openings or something.
I’m really looking forward to getting the rental house. I remember the townhouse in Beaverton, retreating up to my room and spending hours there being creative and wrting songs. I really long for that, and even now I feel like i’ve got songs welling up, ready to come out. I just can’t get anything down in a one bedroom apartment with 3 people in it. i’m so A.D.D. that I forget what i’m doing before I even get started.
In the last couple of weeks, i’ve had the pleasure of encountering a good number of dogs belonging to various friends and relatives. Oh man, do I want a dog. i’ve been really feeling the bug for the last couple of years. Another good reason why I can’t wait for the house to open up.
