So, in preparation for recording the band on tuesdays, I decided to track today’s worship in Pro Tools so I could get the template up and tweak the input levels. I got the inputs set up right for first service, but I didn’t have time to check the levels, and since I was playing drums, I had enough time to arm the tracks, hit record, and run for the kit. By the time first service was over, I realized that the kick drum and bass inputs were distorting, so I backed them down for second service. It turned out pretty good, actually.
We introduced two new songs today, one is this one called Great Redeemer by Eohgan Heaslip (it’s actually pronounced ‘Owen’, I know I don’t get the phonetics either), which turned out a little fast for me, and then this one, called Restore Me, by one of our high school students, Daniel Bachran. A little background here; Rocky has a ministry that he’s got going called Psalm 95 wherein he’s got a group of layleaders that he’d developed into worship leaders, and he encourages them to write songs. They’ve actually done a really great job, considering most of them are in high school, some in middle school, that’s pretty far along in my book when it comes to songwriting. Anyway, they’ve got probably 14 or so original songs that they have taught to high school, middle school and college ministries and have them in thier rotation of songs. This one, however, is the first one that’s made it to the adult worship rotation, which is saying something pretty signifigant.
The lyrics are:
Verse:
Restore me Lord, make me new and whole again
For I have sinned and feel the emptiness inside
Restore my soul, catch my heart on fire
And restore it with a burning desire
Chorus:
It is Your love oh Lord, it amazes me Lord
That You can heal me from a broken heart
Bridge:
Show me Your light, save me from the dark
Hear me pray so that we may never part
so, here it is in all it’s glory:
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
Mp3: CBR 265kbps/44khz/Stereo
Band: Lynsey Filer: Lead Vocal/Acoustic Guitar, Gregg Andrews: Second Lead Vocal/Electric Guitar, Bass: Ryan Bell, Piano: Dawn Laduke, B3 Organ: Senior Pastor Scott (he can rock the keys, yo) Drums: Moi, BG vocals, assorted lead line vocalists from the choir (read: i don’t remember).
We had a few timing issues, I don’t think Filer is used to playing on the big stage and hearing the slapback from the auditorium, but she’s still one of my favourite leaders to play with. Overall the service was really solid. We have a lady named Beth that teaches vocal lessons, and I’ve become pretty good friends with her and her family; I gave her a mix CD today of some Over the Rhine and Imogen Heap stuff, because I think that’d she’d love them both. OtR is coming in the next couple months, and i’d love it if she could come with us.
